Ostomy Toronto Newsletter | October 2021
President's Report
November 2021

The Ostomy Toronto Board of Directors is committed to sending as many kids to camp next year as possible. We will be starting a social media campaign so we can make everyone aware camp is going on this upcoming summer. Besides the Easter Seals Camp in Alberta, we are looking at other camps closer to home here in Ontario. Over the last few years I have learned not all parents and kids want to go that far away from home for a week, so to ensure we send as many kids as possible we're looking at all our options right now and I will update you on changes as they come.

I truly apologize for the ongoing issues we've been experiencing with Zoom at our Monthly Meetings. It is very frustrating, despite our best efforts to fix the links and sign-in issues, we still seem to be running into problems. Our Web Manager is working on finding the best solution for smooth and easy logins to our meetings - stay tuned and again, our apologies.

ADP Grant

Once again the Ostomy Canada Society Advocacy Committee is lobbying the government for an increase to the ADP grant since we have not had a increase since we got it increased few years back. Like last time, I have gotten the Ontario NDP on side to help us in Parliament. We may have to do the petition and letter campaign to chapter local MPP as this was very successful last time. I will report on this again after the holidays and by then we should have first step response from the government.

Our next meeting will be on December 14, 2021 at 730 pm. Due to the holidays we will only have 1 meeting this month and be back in the new year.

I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.
Please stay safe and well.

Thanks
Jim Fitzgerald

Feature Friday: Gab
“Gaining weight is cool too🤟🏽 especially when it means that extra weight allows your body to do all the things you love!!!

The girl on the right can work a 12 hour nursing shift 👩🏼‍⚕️🏥… the girl on the left could barely walk up a flight of stairs

The girl on the right nourishes her body with all sorts of food 🍕🍎 and enjoys lots of treats… the girl on the left couldn’t eat without throwing it back up

The girl on the right enjoys yoga, dog walks and the occasional run these days. The girl on the left spent the majority of her day in bed 🛌

Thanks to my ostomy bag 🧳and the removal of my colon, I’m the weight that allows my body to carry me through my day with confidence and power… not the weight that was a very sick, very malnourished girl who truly could not enjoy her life 🙏🏼 love you forever sloan 🥲🧡"
