President's Report
October 2021
Happy Halloween

I am currently working on getting some new speakers for upcoming monthly zoom meetings I will keep you posted on any updates on this.

Our next Zoom meeting is our Open Forum Meeting on November 9, 2021 at 7:30pm, and our Monthly Meeting is November 30 2021 at 7:30 pm. I understand there
may have been a technical issues with logging into zoom the last few times -
this issue has been addressed and fixed. If you have any issues logging in please
contact me directly at jimfitzgerald40@gmail.com.

For World Ostomy Day in October, Ostomy Toronto held a contest inviting you to post photos on our Facebook Page. Congratulations to Linda Hurren and Jennifer Burnett who won the $100 Tim Hortons Gift Card prize. I was happy to see a few people post pics even with the short notice. I hope next year let's show the world what we can do with a ostomy.

I don't think we will have any in-person meetings until at least next spring, to ensure everyone can join in person and do so safely.

You should have received your membership renewal form. I kindly ask you to complete and return it along with your membership fees. You can also fill out a Membership Form Online here. The membership fees allow Ostomy Toronto to keep running and giving people the support they need.

I thank you for renewing, and your continuous support of Ostomy Toronto.

Thanks
Jim Fitzgerald

Feature Friday: Renée
Last month we featured Renée, who opens up about her struggles with food:

“The relationship between food and a person with Crohns can be toxic.
When you are in a flare, food is terrifying.
You eat to live, but a few hours later, you are regretful.
I got to a point where I would eat once a day, take a laxative, drink a lot of water and prayed it won’t get stuck in my tummy. (It rarely passed btw)
Sounds toxic.
And in any other context, that would be an eating disorder.
I didn’t know food to be anything but pain.
I remember telling my sister on the ride home from appointment with my surgeon, “once I get this surgery, I’m gonna eat everything I couldn’t eat”
For me, that was 80% of foods 🤣
So I did.
I have to say, eating without fear is a different type of super power. The first time in my life, I didn’t have to second guess food choices or reach for the laxative.
My relationship with food has gotten better, but I still have moments where I feel anxious about the food I consume.
Just another thing to add to the list of “non Crohns related but related affects of Crohns”

Be well 💜"
